The Reserve Bank of India has rolled out a comprehensive relief package for exporters facing severe disruptions due to global trade headwinds. The measures aim to ease debt-servicing burdens, extend credit support and ensure business continuity across 20 impacted sectors.The RBI's Directions on Trade Related Measures mandate that lenders provide moratorium or deferred payment options on term loans, along with relief on working-capital interest, for dues falling between September 1 and December 31, 2025. The relaxation applies to commercial banks, cooperative banks, NBFCs and all all-India financial institutions.The 20 sectors affected by steep U.S. tariffs include fisheries, leather, textiles, gems and jewellery, organic chemicals, electrical machinery, vehicles and furniture. For these exporters, banks may recalculate drawing power by reducing margins or reassessing working-capital limits during the relief period.To support cash flow, the RBI has also extended the maximum credit period for both pre-shipment and post-shipment export credit from 270 days to 450 days for loans disbursed up to March 31, 2026. The package is aimed at helping viable firms withstand global market volatility and protect jobs in export-dependent sectors.
